Outreach That Heals: Taking Hope Into Schools and Communities

Healing and transformation cannot be limited to the walls of a centre. At Pounds, we believe that hope must be taken directly into the spaces where children and young people live, learn, and grow. That is why our outreach programs extend into schools, homes, and communities across Uganda.

Our outreach approach is simple: go where the need is greatest. In schools, we talk about mental health, drug abuse prevention, and the importance of staying in education. In communities, we conduct awareness campaigns, parenting workshops, and youth mentorship sessions. In homes, we work directly with families, helping them rebuild relationships fractured by trauma, addiction, or neglect.

This proactive model ensures that even those who cannot reach our centre are still touched by our services. For example, during one school outreach, a teacher noticed a student who was unusually withdrawn. Through our program, we were able to identify that the child was dealing with domestic abuse. Immediate counseling and family intervention not only saved the child’s life but also restored peace in that home.

Outreach is also about breaking stigma. In many communities, mental health and trauma are still taboo subjects. By openly discussing them, we encourage people to seek help without shame. This has led to more children being referred to us for counseling, and more parents opening their doors to our team for guidance.

Outreach makes sure no young person is left behind. But to reach more schools and communities, we need partners and supporters who believe in taking hope to the grassroots. Together, we can extend the healing beyond our walls and into every corner of society.
